Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a skin condition that is immune system related. With the plaque form, which is in many cases, there are areas of the skin with lesions. These places become an angry red color, (inflamed), and the lesions also have scales that are white. You might have just a few lesions, or many of them. So the degree varies to which you are having this skin condition. This skin condition is also genetic in nature most of the time.

Diagnosis

The dermatologist can easily determine psoriasis by looking at the skin. Treating psoriasis is done by the prescribing of specially treated creams and also medications taken orally will help. These may clear up the problem for a certain period of time before recuring again.

Types of this skin condition

There are different types of this skin problem. They are:

Inverse This type means that there is an inflammation that is present in the body.

Guttate Little dots that are lesion types appear on your skin.

Erythrodermic The skin is very red and will have a lot of shedding of skin present.

Pustular These lesions are runny and there is a lot of scaling that occurs.

With any of these types, you can have mild, moderate or to the point where it is causing severe problems and a disability.

The most common places on the body for psoriasis is on the elbows, torso, scalp, or knees. It is also not uncommon for the problem to appear other places such as the nails, genitalia, or the hands.

This skin condition can occur at any age in life, but is more common in the teen years up until age 35 or so.

There is no racial preference that the disease attacks more than the other.

In having this skin condition, stress can easily bring on a flare-up of it. Going out too much in the sun without some heavy duty protection will also bring on an attack as well since the worst thing you can get with this disorder is a sunburn. There are also medications that will bring on an attack such as some of the drugs for depression, some heart medicines and blood pressure pills. Diet changes can bring on an attack as well.

Controlling Itching

Always keep the skin moisturized well. This helps people with this condition substantially. Dermatologists can prescribe topical anesthetics and steroids, and possibly add some allergy pills to the mix to help control the internal allergies that may be going on in the system.
