Prostatitis

Prostatitis is classified as an infection of the prostate gland. The prostate gland is responsible for semen production.

Males that are having prostatitis will have various types of symptoms that are just like that of a bladder infection. There is usually burning, pelvic pain, or pain in the lower back. There are four types of this infection:

Acute bacterial type

Chronic bacterial type

Nonbacterial types

Asymtomatic inflammatory

For the acute bacterial type, and chronic type of infection, antibiotics are given with medicines for pain relief. In the other types, treatment involves calming symptoms.



Symptoms

The symptoms will range in severity depending upon what type of infection is occuring of the prostate. For the acute type, there is usually:

Fever

Chills

Pain in the prostate gland

Lower back pains

Bloody urine

Pain on ejaculation

If you are having any signs of the acute problem, see the doctor immediately.

If the type of problem is chronic, there is usually the symptoms of the acute phase except men have trouble beginning to urinate and blood now and then in the urine. Bladder infections occur repeatedly as well.

This medical condition is not very easy to diagnose. The symptomatology resembles that of bladder infections and does not always mean a problem with prostate. The best way to figure out this medical disorder is through laboratory testing to see whether a bacteria is actually there in the prostate fluid or not.

After determining the cause of symptoms, and if it is prostatitis, doctors will prescribe medicines accordingly. If the phase is an acute one, a hospital stay with IV medicines may actually be required to kill the severe infection.

Chronic problems which do not have a bacterial nature may be brought on by:

Abnormalities that are structural in nature

Muscle spasms in the pelvic area

Hard physical exercise may negatively impact the prostate gland.

Other infectious problems which may not appear on lab tests.
