Glomerulonephritis
This disease is also referred to as glomerular disease. It can be a part of lupus, or
diabetes.
Signs and symptoms of this complex kidney disease are the following. If you notice that any of these are taking place in your body, see your healthcare provider quickly. Cola colored or black urine, or it can be more like the color of strong tea. This means red blood cells, (blood in the urine known as hematuria). Hypertension which is high blood pressure. Hypertension typically accompanies a kidney problem. Retaining of fluid You'll have swelling present in your abdomen, face, hands, and also your feet. Tiredness and an all over fatigue. Anemia which is the iron deficiency type. This is very likely in renal failure. Hardly urinating at all, not even a cup per day. Glomerulonephritis is a kidney disease where kidney failure can easily transpire. What causes this kidney disease are several things. You may have one or more of the following which causes this condition: A strep type of an infection such as your throat. Impetigo can also bring this condition on since it is also classified as strep. Endocarditis This type of infection is of the heart valvular tissues. People with an artificial heart valve are likey to receive this infection. A viral infection can bring on this kidney disease. Hepatitis B or C is likely to cause nephrons in the kidney to die and therefore, the kidney has failure. Lupus is highly likely to initiate nephritis. Since lupus is considered an inflammatory disease, it can damage many parts of the major body organs. Iga nepropathy of which is a disorder where there are bouts of blood in the urine, is a result of the glomeruli becoming effected by deposits called immunoglobulin. Hypertension is a frequent cause of this medical condition since it kills nephrons from the blood pressure becoming too high.
Diagnosis If your healthcare provider is suspecting that you have glomerulonephritis, he or she will perform these tests: Blood tests really tell the story of kidneys. A measurement of serum creatnine will be done which tells the doctor your GFR score. GFR stands for glomerular filtration rate. This rate tells how far your kidney's are working or not working. A CT scan will probably be done or an IVP where dye is placed in your arm for special x-rays that show up the kidney areas. A biopsy of the kidneys may be done to take out kidney tissue in little pieces for laboratory analysis. Neprotic syndrome, is a disorder with multiple symptoms that go along with glomerulonephritis and other problems affecting your kidneys glomeruli to work. They can easily diagnose this problem with a 24 hour collection of urine. How is this kidney disease treated once found? Treatment of this nephritis type depends on whether or not you have the acute or chronic form. Dialysis is done if the kidneys have almost totally failed, and your GFR rate is 30 or less. For hypertension, your doctor will prescribe some drugs called angiotensin-converting enzymes, which help control the leakage of protein from the kidneys. Water pills known as diuretics may also be prescribed to help fluid retention you would be having from the kidneys not wanting to expel urine. Transplantation can be done as a possibility, though the waiting lists are often long, and a certain period of time must pass before you can get on the list to receive a compatible donor.
