Epilepsy and Seizure Disorders
Epilepsy and abdominal epilepsy is a seizure disorder within the brain.
It has an affect on both memory and other brain and health functions. When seizures take place, it is coming from an electrical source of brain activity. Seizures can last anywhere from a brief few seconds, or it may go on for at least a few minutes. There is a variety of symptoms from convulsions, smacking of the lips, losing bladder control, staring into space as though the person is daydreaming, or a total loss of consciousness altogether. There can also be trembling of the limbs. Types of seizures Petit Mal is the staring into space type of seizure where you zone out. Grand Mal seizures are the type of seizures with tremors, loss of bladder control, and sometimes consciousness. Febrile seizures are the type that kids will have from very high fevers. There is a convulsion that occurs with these seizures.
Genetics may play a role in seizure disorders, but this is not always the case from what I have read in medical journals. People that have any seizure disorder are sometimes caused by brain injuries, alzheimers disease, and poisons from lead, carbon monoxide, or other exposure to toxins. Abdominal seizures are a type of gastric upset or intestinal disturbance that is common in some types of epilepsy. The common symptoms are: abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, and bloating problems. These above symptoms are almost like that of irritable bowel problems, except for the fact there can be loss of consciousness in this problem. This seizure problem was not really recognized for several years until two doctors, Musser and Kelly in the early part of the twentieth century recognized it. Disturbances in temporal lobe activity will often trigger abdominal types of seizures. It has been believed that the pathology of the brain during seizure activity may upset the abdominal organs, and therefore cause these types of problems.
Seizure disorders and Alzheimers may be connected.
Fluid on the brain is usually hydrocephalus.
